The Cure 40th Anniversary Concert Film Due For Release This Summer

A concert film celebrating the Cure's 40th anniversary will arrive this summer.

The Cure: Anniversary 1978-2018 features the iconic band's performance at their 2018 Hyde Park show as part of the British Summer Time concert series. It's due a global cinema release on July 11. Frontman Robert Smith said:

“This really was the perfect way to celebrate 40 years of the band. It was a fabulous day none of us will ever forget.

"If you’d asked me in The Rocket what I’d be doing in 40 years, I would have got the answer very wrong… but it’s thanks to everyone around me, and to you all as well that I’m still here… so thank you very much! It’s been a good four decades… here’s to the next one!”

Director Tim Pope added:

“Working alongside Robert for these 37 years of the band’s 40-year history - and also having previously filmed the band for the 35mm ‘In Orange’ 1986 concert film - I wanted cinema-goers to feel like they were in the thick of the action, in the heart of the music. Our film really captures the true power and passion of The Cure’s music for a global audience.

I went to rehearsals in a very cramped studio just the day before the show, and sat in the group’s midst as they ran through the songs. I knew as the set list unfolded that the only way to show people the real cure was to capture not only the grand, epic dimension of their stage show, but also the close, intimate side of this band simply making music together. Never has robert sung so well, nor has the Cure played more passionately, more tightly, more powerfully."
