Brittany Howard has announced her debut solo album.
Alabama Shakes' vocalist and guitarist will put out 'Jaime' on September 20 through Columbia Records. Prior to the release she'll play a handful of headline US shows, two dates in Europe and a UK show at EartH in Hackney, London. She'll also support the record with a solo North American tour during the fall. Tickets go on sale at 10am local time on June 28.
The album was named after Howard's sister, who introduced her to piano and poetry. She died of cancer when they were teenagers. Howard said:
“The title is in memoriam, and she definitely did shape me as a human being. But, the record is not about her. It’s about me. I’m pretty candid about myself and who I am and what I believe. Which is why I needed to do it on my own.”
Head below to listen to the album's first single, History Repeats, which the singer-songwriter says "is as much a personal song as it is a song about us as a human species." It mixes blues, rock and funk influences to create an unpredictable, yet engaging soundscape.
I am so proud to announce that “Jaime”, my debut solo album will be coming out September 20!
