Following an Instagram teaser, Ed Sheeran has dropped a surprise new single.
Afterglow is the first new offering from the singer-songwriter since the release of his star-studded ’No.6 Collaborations Project’, which landed in summer 2019 and boasts collaborations with Eminem, 50 Cent, Travis Scott, Khalid, Stormzy, Justin Bieber, Camila Cabello and Cardi B.
The track is a heartfelt, folk-tinged pop ballad led by acoustic guitar and layered vocals. However, Sheeran made it clear in another Instagram post that this is not a preview of a new record, just "a song I wrote last year that I wanted to release for you."
Following extensive touring in support of his 2017 album ’÷’, he announced in late 2019 that he was taking a break from the road and social media, "to travel, write and read." This summer, Sheeran and his wife Cherry Seaborn welcomed their first child, Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran.
