Billy Idol Announces 'The Roadside' EP, Shares Video For Lead Single Bitter Taste

Billy Idol has announced his first new release in seven years.
'The Roadside' EP will arrive on September 17 via Dark Horse Records, and boasts production by Butch Walker and contributions from Idol's lead guitarist and co-writer Steve Stevens. The bulk of it was created during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Explaining how the lead single Bitter Taste was inspired by his near-fatal motorcycle accident in 1990, the iconic vocalist said:
“I think everyone has been feeling more reflective (during the pandemic). So, it seemed quite logical and natural to write something about my motorcycle accident. Certainly, the motorcycle accident was the catharsis, the wake-up moment. A little bit of me got left on that roadside. But it wasn’t necessarily a bad thing in the end; it was a wake-up call. Maybe on that roadside I left behind the irreverent youthful Billy and opened the door for a more attentive father and a more sensitive musician.”
The song finds Idol's gravelly vocals delivering candid lyrics atop a heartland rock-influenced soundscape featuring acoustic and electric guitar alongside keys and propellant percussion. It's a great return, and impressive statement of intent for the rest of the record.
He'll celebrate the album with a run of shows in the US, including festival sets. Head below for dates and ticket details.
