Kacey Musgraves Details New Album 'Star-Crossed', Shares Accompanying Film Trailer And Title Track

Tuesday, 24 August 2021 Written by Jon Stickler

Kacey Musgraves has announced her fourth studio album.

The follow-up to the American country-pop star's 2018 Grammy Award-winning 'Golden Hour' is called 'Star-Crossed' and will arrive on September 10 through Interscope Records/Polydor/UMG Nashville.

Described as "an extremely personal journey of heartache and healing," the 15-song LP was penned and recorded within three weeks in Nashville, Tennessee earlier in 2021, during the aftermath of Musgraves' divorce. It finds the 33-year-old reuniting with co-producers and writers Ian Fitchuk and Daniel Tashian.

As a preview, the singer has released the record's title track and a trailer to an accompanying film. The opening eponymous song is an airy number that unfurls around Latin-inspired guitars while building to a pulsating, synth-led crescendo. It's presented as a mournful introduction to the theme of the record, which will function as a modern day tragedy in three acts.

The Bardia Zenali-directed film, meanwhile, features cameos from Eugene Levy, Princess Nokia, RuPaul's Drag Race star Symone, Victoria Pedretti and Megan Stalter. It will debut on Paramount+ on the same day the album is released.

'Star-Crossed' tracklist:

1. star-crossed
2. good wife
3. cherry blossom
4. simple times
5. if this was a movie..
6. justified
7. angel
8. breadwinner
9. camera roll
10. easier said
11. hookup scene
12. keep lookin’ up
13. what doesn’t kill me
14. there is a light
15. gracias a la vida
