Karen Elson Shares New Single Broken Shadow From Upcoming Album 'Green'

Monday, 28 March 2022 Written by Jon Stickler

Karen Elson has shared a new song, Broken Shadow.

The reflective, ethereal track is anchored by a steady combination of acoustic guitar strumming and a shuffling drum beat. Joined by the previously unveiled Lighting Strikes, it'll appear on the singer-songwriter's upcoming third studio album, 'Green', due out on April 29 via Big Yellow Dog.

It'll also feature on the soundtrack to the film, Moonshot, joined by two other original songs by the artist. The sci-fi, romantic comedy feature-length is due out on HBO Max on March 31. Elson said:

"It’s the most autobiographical song. The lyrics poured out of me. Broken Shadow is about recognizing that we’re all flawed, complicated, and a little bit fucked up and making peace with that. It’s about loving the broken parts of yourself. COVID strangely catapulted me into this frame of deep reflection.

"I did a lot of work to reconcile places in the past I deemed broken or complicated, and showed the shadow back to myself. I’m telling the shadow, 'You’re my friend and a part of me. Let’s continue.'"
