Aerosmith Cancel Las Vegas Dates After Singer Steven Tyler Checks Into Rehab

Wednesday, 25 May 2022 Written by Jon Stickler

Aerosmith have cancelled part of their upcoming Las Vegas residency due to frontman Steven Tyler checking himself into a rehabilitation facility.

The Boston rock legends were expected to kick off their Deuces Are Wild shows at the Park MGM's Dolby Live on June 17, though some gigs have now been scrapped. The Park MGM website confirms that ticket holders will be automatically refunded.

The news comes as the 74-year-old vocalist, who had been sober for over a decade, suffered a relapse after taking pain medication for recent foot surgery. A statement posted to social media confirmed that the June and July dates will not go ahead, with the band intending to resume the residency in September:

"As many of you know, our beloved brother Steven has worked on his sobriety for many years. After foot surgery to prepare for the stage and the necessity of pain management during the process, he has recently relapsed and voluntarily entered a treatment program to concentrate on his health and recovery.

"We are truly sorry to inform our fans and friends that we must cancel our first set of Las Vegas Residency dates this June and July while he focuses on his well-being.

"We will continue our 2022 dates starting in September, and we’ll let you know any further updates as soon as we can. We are devastated that we have inconvenienced so many of you, especially our most loyal fans who often travel great distances to experience our shows.

"Thank you for your understanding and for your support for Steven during this time."

Back in February, Aerosmith cancelled their UK and European tour dates due to COVID-19 and the uncertainty surrounding international travel. A month later, they revealed that drummer Joey Kramer would be taking a "temporary leave of absence" from the band.

The group also have a twice-postponed hometown performance at Boston’s Fenway Park in the diary for September 8, with special guests Extreme. It was originally intended to take place in 2020 to commemorate their 50th anniversary.
