Peter Doherty has laid out plans for a new solo album.
The Libertines and Babyshambles frontman will release 'Felt Better Alive', his first solo project in nine years, on May 16 via his own Strap Originals label.
Featuring 11 songs, it's led by the strummed, rhythmic country-folk song and title track, which comes with a video you can watch below. Commenting on it, he said:
"It’s quite bouncy, quite country. ‘Dredging the mouth of the Humber’ is a line from Hancock [about coagulated sprinkled sugar in the bottom of a bowl of cornflakes]. The chorus I love, ‘And I’d always planned/To sing in a sweet and soulful way as only cowboys can/But my saddle strap snapped like a dog-chewed tourniquet…’It’s an accurate description of how I feel about certain times in my life, y’know? Treasures of the Sierra Mardre: you set off on this mission for the gold and you just ended up lost in the mountains, being hunted by bandits."
Alongside the news, the singer-songwriter has scheduled his Anywhere In Albion Tour of the UK and Felt Better Alive In Europe Tour for the spring. Tickets go on general sale at 10am local time on Friday (January 17).
Following the trek, he'll play In It Together festival in South Wales in May, Together Again in Cheshire in July, and Sheffield's Don Valley Bowl in August as part of the touring Rock N Roll Circus.
Doherty released his last solo LP, 'Hamburg Demonstrations', in 2016. He put out 'Peter Doherty and the Puta Madres' in 2019, followed by a joint album with French composer Frédéric Lo, 'The Fantasy Life Of Poetry & Crime', in 2022.
The Libertines, meanwhile, released their fourth studio album, 'All Quiet On The Eastern Esplanade', in 2024.
