The Darkness have shared another track from their imminent eighth studio album.
Hot On My Tail finds the Lowestoft rockers exploring country territory, offering their trademark Queen-esque vocal harmonies over rhythmic acoustic strumming and some saloon honky-tonk piano. Commenting on the flatulence-inspired balladry, frontman Justin Hawkins said:
"We live in complicated times. Our forebears understood the romantic power of a well-timed breaking of the wind accompanied by the rowdy trumpeting that should, by nature, accompany such glorious endeavour. In those heroic times, the ladyfolk were invariably amazed. Alas, relentless progress has driven a wedge between the sexes - a schism, if you will.
"Nowadays, when it comes to love, we gentlemen hide our flatulence in a guilty miasma of fear and despair. I am not here to judge. It is for you to decide… to clench or to be free. I sincerely hope that this exploration of the matter will help you to slide squeakily from the fence. Good day to you all."
The follow-up to 2021's 'Motorheart' will arrive this Friday (March 28) via Cooking Vinyl, amid the band's biggest headline UK tour to date, which continues with a performance in Bristol tonight (March 24).
The band were forced to reschedule their gigs in Manchester and Newcastle over the weekend after Hawkins was diagnosed with a chest infection. The dates will now take place on March 31 and April 1, respectively, and original tickets remain valid for the rescheduled shows.
They also have summer shows lined up in Limerick and Killarney, alongside slots at Download festival and Belfast's CHSq concert series. Tickets are on sale now.
