Joe Bonamassa Announces New Studio Album 'Breakthrough', Shares Title Track

Joe Bonamassa has laid out plans for a new album.
The blues-rock giant will release 'Breakthrough' on July 18 via his own J&R Adventures. Produced by longtime collaborator Kevin Shirley, whose résumé includes work with Iron Maiden, The Black Crowes and Journey, it was created during recording sessions in Greece, Egypt, Nashville and Los Angeles. Shirley commented:
"I think this album, 'Breakthrough', marks a shift in the styling of Joe Bonamassa’s recording output. While there are plenty of guitar solos on this record, his emphasis has been on songs primarily. Each time Joe undertakes a new recording project, he seems to access a different part of his vast library of music genre from the jukebox-in-his-head! This album is a round-the-world musical trip—from Little Feat funkiness to Texas swing, from hard rock power to acoustic singer/songwriter-style songs."
To coincide with the announcement, Bonamassa has shared the record's title track and opening song, a rich, soul-stirring anthem that serves up emotive storytelling lyrics that were penned alongside longtime writing partner Tom Hambridge. Previously shared cuts from the record include Still Walking With Me and Shake This Ground.
Having just wrapped up a run of UK arena shows, Bonamassa is currently touring Europe with dates lined up through to mid-May, before further Irish and European gigs later in the summer, followed by US shows between July 31 and December 6.
He'll also hit the road as part of the supergroup Black Country Communion, alongside Glenn Hughes, Jason Bonham and Derek Sherinian, for European dates in June. Head here for details. Tickets are on sale now.
Bonamassa's most recent studio album is 2023's 'Blues Deluxe Vol. 2', though he put out the festive LPs 'Merry Christmas, Baby' and 'Lonely Christmas Eve' in 2023 and 2024, respectively. He also released the live record and film, 'Live At The Hollywood Bowl With Orchestra', and a 10th anniversary edition of his landmark album 'Different Shades Of Blue', in 2024.
