Lord Huron Announce Fifth Album 'The Cosmic Selector Vol. 1' With New Single Looking Back

Lord Huron have announced their fifth studio album.
'The Cosmic Selector Vol. 1' will arrive through Mercury Records on July 18, following up 2021's 'Long Lost', as well as its 2022 deluxe edition and 2023's 'Music for The Starling Girl', a soundtrack album accompanying the film The Starling Girl.
Written and co-produced by band leader and mastermind Ben Schneider, the new album's title refers to the machine featured on its cover art, painted by Andrew “Mackie” McIntosh. Schneider said of the title:
"What if you could choose your fate like choosing a song on a jukebox? What if your finger slipped and you got the b-side instead? What if you misunderstood the meaning of the dang song to begin with?"
To coincide with the announcement, Lord Huron have released a new single, Looking Back, which opens the record with an ethereal, introspective tone, blending an atmospheric soundscape with emotive storytelling. Schneider explained:
"The weight of your past can distort your present and future, the way massive celestial objects warp the fabric of the universe. Like a bowling ball on a trampoline. This song wonders if it’s possible to let go, or if looking back is a fundamental law of existence."
It follows the band's March single, Nothing I Need, and Who Last Laughs featuring actress Kirsten Stewart, which arrived in January. In addition to Stewart, the album also features Blonde Redhead's Kazu Makino on the track Fire Eternal.
Lord Huron will be joined by Pillow Queens for a UK and European tour in September. They'll also tour North America this year, hitting the road throughout the summer and fall. Tickets are on sale now.
