Joy Crookes Posts New Single Carmen

Friday, 16 May 2025 Written by Jon Stickler

Joy Crookes is back with a new single, Carmen.

Serving up clever wordplay over a piano-based production that draws comparisons to Frank Ocean's Super Rich Kids and Elton John's Bennie and The Jets, the track offers commentary on society's unrealistic beauty standards. Crookes said:

"It’s for the women that I really admire and care about who have been diminished because of the way they look or the way their brains work or the fact that they have suffered from mental health issues and the fact that they actually have an opinion on something and aren't just designed for men!"

It's the latest in a string of singles from the South London artist, following I Know You’d KillMathematics featuring Kano, and Pass The Salt with Vince Staples.

She'll play the New Music Stage at BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend in Liverpool on May 25, before making her third appearance at Glastonbury Festival on June 29.

She released her debut album, 'Skin', in 2021.
