Pendulum have shared plans for their first album in 15 years.
The Australian electro-rock band will return with 'Inertia' on August 22, following up 2010's 'Immersion', 2018's remix record, 'The Reworks', and 2023's 'Anima' EP. Explaining how the new record came together, frontman Rob Swire said:
“I was basically testing how far we could push Pendulum. Seeing what we could get away with. I always looked at The Prodigy as the benchmark. They started out as pure rave - breakbeat, hardcore - but they evolved. They became their own sound. You don’t even really associate them with breakbeat anymore. They just are The Prodigy.
“It’s the sound of Pendulum finding themselves again, and me figuring myself out to a certain extent. Breakups do that - they strip things down and show you who you are. I’m just trying not to become the guy who needs to go through one just to make a record.”
Recorded at the band's London Studio, and produced by Swire and Owen Charles, it's previewed by the new single, Save The Cat, which serves up a maelstrom of the group's drum and bass energy and screamo vocals. Swire added:
"It was written during a period of self-questioning and frustration. Love felt like something I didn’t fully trust myself with anymore."
The record will include their previously released singles Napalm, their 2024 collaboration with Joey Valence & Brae, Halo, their 2023 track featuring Bullet For My Valentine, Colourfast, which also came out in 2023, Louder Than Words with Hybrid Minds and Nothing For Free. The latter two tracks came out as part of the 2021 EP 'Elemental'.
The album also boasts collaborations with Wargasm on Cannibal, AWOLNATION on Guiding Lights, and Scarlxrd on Mercy Killing.
Pendulum will play a number of outdoor UK shows this spring and summer. Tickets are on sale now.
