Styx Announce New Album 'Circling From Above' With First Single Build And Destroy

Styx have announced their 18th studio album.
The veteran US rockers will release 'Circling From Above' through Alpha Dog 2T/UMe label on July 18, following up 2021's 'Crash Of The Crown', through they've put out a few live albums since then, including 2022's 'Search For Tomorrow (Live 1977)' and 2024's 'Renegades & Juke Box Heroes (Live)'.
To coincide with the announcement, the septet have released the first single from the record, Build And Destroy, which blends elements of melodic prog and arena rock with their signature rich, layered vocal harmonies and storytelling lyricism. Bassist Terry Gowan, who sings lead on the track, said:
"That little melody, I kept singing Build and Destroy. Even though we don’t sing over that part, I kept thinking that would be a good title. It’s thematic. The melody feels like a little Star Trek or Twilight Zone thing — just a small tag that reinforces the title."
"We knew it was strong," he continued. "Even though it was the second-to-last song we finished, it felt like a quick way into the album’s overall theme."
Styx have just kicked off a North American tour, billed as The Brotherhood Of Rock Tour, with The Kevin Cronin Band. Tickets are on sale now.
