The Charlatans have returned with details of their long-awaited 14th studio album.

The Manchester indie giants will release 'We Are Love' through BMG on October 31, following up 2017's Different Days.

Co-produced by Dev Hynes, aka Blood Orange, and Fred Macpherson, with additional help from previous collaborator Stephen Street, and recorded at Rockfield Studios in Wales, and the band's own Big Mushroom space in Middlewich, Cheshire, the LP is previewed by the release of the title track, which frontman Tim Burgess described as, "like an open top car ride in the credits of your favourite movie driving along the coast to somewhere amazing."

Guitarist Mark Collins added: "Early on we thought it felt right. And it turned out that way: first single, title track, second song on the album. And things started forming around We Are Love. There was a certain energy to it that drove us forwards."

The five-piece debuted the song live during their hometown gig at Castlefield Bowl earlier this month as part of the Sounds Of The City series.

Commenting on the recording process, Burgess added: "The whole idea of hauntology and psychogeography is represented by us going back to Rockfield, where so much history has happened for The Charlatans. That was important as a way of honouring every member who's played in the band. So we’re honouring ourselves, our past, feeling that energy and reincarnating it, doing something fresh, brand new."

To coincide with the album announcement, The Charlatans have scheduled a UK tour for December, with shows confirmed in Leeds, Stoke, Bath, London, Manchester and Glasgow. Tickets go on general sale at 10am on Friday (July 18).

Ahead of the tour, they'll support Manic Street Preachers at a Heritage Live show in Saffron Walden, Essex on August 2, before an appearance at Victorious Festival in Portsmouth on August 22. Tickets are on sale now.

In the time since their last studio album, The Charlatans have released anniversary editions of 'Modern Nature' and 'Up To Our Hips', as well as the compilation, 'A Head Full of Ideas', and live records 'Trust Is For Believers', and 'Live At Reading Festival 1992'.
