Sabaton have laid out plans for their 11th studio album.
'Legends' will arrive on October 17, marking the Swedish metallers' debut on their new label, Better Noise Music. It follows their 2022 album, 'The War To End All Wars', and their two 2023 EPs, 'Stories From The Western Front' and 'Heroes Of The Great War.'
Produced by Jonas Kjellgren at Sweden's Black Lounge Studios, the record delves into ancient and medieval history rather than modern warfare, with 11 tracks dedicated to historical figures such as Joan of Arc, Napoleon, Julius Caesar, and Miyamoto Musashi. Bassist Pär Sundström explained:
"We can finally announce that our 11th studio album 'Legends' is coming out on October 17th! Eleven tracks that cover eleven iconic legendary stories. This time we look further back in history than we have the past few years, going to times that I think are very exciting. As someone who's always been into the history of the Middle Ages, knights and the legends of old, it felt incredible to finally bring those stories into the Sabaton universe."
The album will also be released on vinyl in 11 unique variations, each themed around a different track, with pre-orders available here. Singer Joakim Brodén explained: "Music collectors will be happy to hear that you are now able to pre-order our 'Legends' album in all formats imaginable, including digital, CD, vinyl and a cassette tape that will be featured in a box set. Apart from the usual suspects, there are multiple cool editions available, and we have a bunch of cool vinyls, each corresponding to a legend."
Sundström continued: "We’re all about telling stories through our songs, so we thought, why not do the same with our vinyls? Instead of just making them a cool colour, we wanted them to actually tell a story too. That’s why we decided to name them after the legendary figures featured on the album. It just felt like the perfect way to make them more special. We hope all the physical music collectors out there love the concept! We took the idea from the community and tweaked it ourselves!"
To coincide with the announcement, Sabaton have shared two new tracks, The Duelist (about Japanese swordsman Musashi), and Lightning At The Gates (about Carthaginian general Hannibal Barca), which showcase the power-metal band's epic storytelling lyricsm and trademark soaring guitar riffs and huge choruses.
The group previously teased the record with the singles Hordes Of Khan and Templars, both released earlier this year.
They'll support the LP with The Legendary Tour of Europe and the UK this autumn, following dates in Australia and New Zealand in September. Tickets are on sale now.
