'It's All Testament to the Fans': As December Falls On Their New Album and Massive UK Tour

Tuesday, 12 August 2025 Written by Will Marshall

As December Falls’ rise happened slowly at first, and then all at once. The Nottingham quartet had plugged away quietly for years, wearing their hearts on the sleeves of their earnest pop-punk songs, but that changed with the release of their third album ‘Join The Club’ in 2023, when the broadening of their musical horizons was reflected back by a surge in popularity.

It took them by surprise, but they didn’t stay on their heels. A whirlwind few years followed, where they played to a packed tent at Download before touring Australia and supporting alt-pop star RØRY across the UK. All of that without a label or much of a team behind them, beyond a few handpicked people out to help them realise their DIY dream.

The next step in that journey is set to land with their fourth album, the boundary-smashing ‘Everything’s On Fire But I’m Fine’. Showcasing their most diverse, confident songwriting to date, it’ll also be accompanied by their biggest headline tour, which kicks off at London’s Electric Ballroom at the end of October. We caught up with singer Bethany Curtis and guitarist Ande Hunter to talk about it all.

You’ve released six singles after announcing the LP at the start of the year. What led to having such a long run up?

Ande: “I feel rock artists have been maybe a little bit behind the times. When you look at the major pop artists or the major rap artists that are blowing up and doing really well, they focus a lot more on lots and lots of singles. We wanted to take that approach with this record and really give the songs enough time to breathe. I feel like when you only drop a couple of singles, people don’t have the chance to focus on one track at a time and really spend some time with it.”

You’ve said that this album was inspired more by what’s going on around you. Is that where the title comes from?

Bethany: “It feels like a meme title, doesn’t it? We feel like that sums up where we currently are in our career. We’re at the point where we’re still fiercely independent, and each album, each tour, each show, everything gets bigger and bigger each time but our team doesn’t grow. It’s still just us and we’re all still working full time jobs.

“We’re all living this double life — we have no time to do anything and it is a case of everything is on fire around us all the time. We’re the ones dealing with all the behind the scenes stuff that people don’t see that isn’t very cool and rock star-y. But also we’re doing some of the coolest shit we’ve ever done. I think we just wanted to be honest with our fans and say, ‘We are loving every bit of this, because this is our passion, but everything is on fire right now.’”

Ande: “I feel like a lot of artists don’t really showcase that vulnerability, and I think we always have done from day one, probably because there is no label, there’s no manager, there’s no one telling us we need to be this kind of persona. We’ve always showcased the fuck ups, the terrible times along the way, like how we had to push the album back by seven days because I accidentally messed up the delivery of the vinyl.”

How does it feel, being a fully independent band and getting to your fourth album?

Ande: “It’s fucking nuts, but it’s all testament to the fans. From day one, we’ve always approached music as: we’re not going to look for labels, we’re not going to look for management, we’re not going to hunt for booking agents. The team around us now is amazing, and even though it’s small, they’ve all come to us. It’s very rare that we’ve ever sought out help from someone else. So, the fact that we are here on our fourth album, the fans made that happen.”

How important is it to have other avenues to connect with fans outside of the band, like your Discord or Twitch streams?

Bethany: “Honestly, I’ve been loving it. After shows, the guys will normally go out to the crowd and chat with them for ages, and everyone always goes, ‘Where’s Beth?’ I always feel so bad, but I have the immune system of a five-year-old, so I know I’m gonna get sick. I have to explain to everyone, ‘I promise I’m not being a diva. I’m trying to sing and get through a tour here.’ When I started my Twitch I did it as a sense of, ‘You guys have been wanting to chat with me, now’s your chance.’

“They’ve created the most insane community through that Twitch channel, it has been incredible. That’s leaked into the Discord. Our fans feel like they have a real deep connection with us because of the music and the lyrics, and they understand that I am an anxious mess sometimes. But now that they see on an almost daily basis, they’ve also realised I’m just an awkward nerd at heart who’s trying my best to get through life. They’re all so supportive of each other. I do think our community is a little bit rare in that respect, because it’s very wholesome, and everyone’s there to help each other out. No one is ever alone. It’s really nice to have a community that you can turn to at any time of the day. Someone is awake there, and someone will chat with you if that’s what you need.”

You have your biggest UK headline run coming up. How are you feeling about those shows?

Bethany: “It’s just crazy. At the beginning, I met three guys and we made music together, and it was really cool. That was it. I just wish I could tell myself, ‘You are going to be headlining Rock City main stage, one of your dream venues where you have seen hundreds of your favourite bands.’ It’s gonna be a bit of an out of body experience when I’m there.”

What else is on your bucket list?

Bethany: “I really want to play Nova Rock and Rock Am Ring and Im Park, I want to get back on Download. Please Download gods, invite us back!”

Ande: “Hellfest, Graspop, Rock For People. I think going out to the US, and going back to Australia are the two main things that I really want to do now.”
