Having established herself as modern Scandi-pop royalty, Sigrid could have played it safe. Instead, her third album ‘There’s Always More That I Could Say’ prioritises creative vision over commercial formula, pivoting towards noughties indie-pop while maintaining her pop instincts.
The shift is immediately apparent. Opening track I’ll Always Be Your Girl trades polished production for jangle-pop guitars reminiscent of The Wombats, while Jellyfish channels Bombay Bicycle Club’s groove-laden basslines beneath Sigrid's crystalline vocals.
She hasn’t abandoned her pop DNA entirely — tracks such as Hush Baby, Hurry Slowly still deliver the skyscraper choruses she’s known for — but the indie textures give her storytelling more space to unravel.
‘There’s Always More That I Could Say’ is, fundamentally, a breakup album, though one that’s resolutely, refreshingly devoid of self-pity.
Sigrid explores the messy aftermath from multiple angles: Two Years adopts her ex's perspective, while the title track’s shifting pronouns — “I hurt you baby” becomes “you hurt me baby” — acknowledge mutual damage with rare maturity. Kiss The Sky delivers the album’s sharpest moment as Sigrid throws shade at an ex who can’t move on: “I don't wanna look back when the sun’s in my face / ‘Cause there ain’t nothing back there, just old love past the sell by date.”
But what goes up must come down and, as such, the album falters slightly in its final third. The title track, stripped back to piano and vocal, feels undercooked compared to surrounding cuts. However, closer Eternal Sunshine recovers its form, its percussion driving movie references as Sigrid confronts the challenge of erasing painful memories.
Embracing brevity and blending pop accessibility with indie swatches, Sigrid has crafted her most cohesive work to date. ‘There’s Always More That I Could Say’ is a banger-heavy breakup album that’s equally about friendship, self-reflection, and moving on.
