The Wave Pictures Announce New Album 'Gained / Lost' With First Single Alice

The Wave Pictures have laid out plans for a new album.
The Leicestershire indie stalwarts will release 'Gained / Lost' on February 27 via Bella Union, following up 2022's 'When The Purple Emperor Spreads His Wings' and the 'French Cricket' EP, released later that same year.
Recorded with Jim Riley at his Rochester Ranscombe Studios over seven days, the album blends '60s garage rock, '70s classic rock, and '90s indie with the DIY aesthetic the trio have embraced throughout their near 30-year career.
To coincide with the announcement, the band have shared the record's first single and opener, Alice, which serves up raw, live-style production with jangly guitars and lyrics inspired by William Burroughs. The band explained:
"This song was influenced by the book ‘My Education: A Book Of Dreams’ by William Burroughs, which is a kind of dream journal, but written in clean, almost hardboiled prose. Alice takes place in a dreamworld. Burroughs might have called this world The Land of the Dead. There is a promise of ice cream in a world between life and death, a kind of holding station. Everybody’s spirit returns to the universe. If this was a movie it would be directed by David Lynch, and it would be black and white. Musically, the song has the kind of open-hearted optimism of a Daniel Johnston or Buddy Holly. There’s a multicoloured joy to the music, and a black and white strangeness to the lyrics."
The Wave Pictures will support the LP with a new UK tour in February and March, following their previously scheduled Christmas London show next month. Tickets for the new dates go on general sale at 9am tomorrow (November 5), except for their Leeds gig, which goes on sale at 10am. Support on the 2026 dates will come from Turner Cody.
