Linda Perry has announced her first solo album in over 25 years.
The lead singer of 4 Non Blondes will release 'Let It Die Here' through Kill Rock Stars/670 Records on May 8, having been inspired to write songs for the project while filming a 2024 documentary of the same name, which is set for a cinematic release in May, with a streaming rollout to follow. Writing on social media, she said:
"I’m trying to think of something brilliant to say about my new album but I can’t. It didn’t come from a place of brilliance. It came from abuse, neglect, manipulation, wanting to be loved, and never feeling good enough. Let It Die Here is about survival, acceptance, and letting go. It’s the best and worst of me."
Alongside the announcement, Grammy-nominated Perry has shared the record's first single, Beautiful, an intimate piano-driven reimagining of the 2002 hit of the same name that she wrote for Christina Aguilera, offering her own personal take on the track's message. She said:
"When I wrote Beautiful, I had no idea I was struggling inside. ‘I am beautiful no matter what they say.’ ‘They’ represents the insecurities we all face, the fear that makes people unkind simply because someone or something is different. Beautiful is about self-expression, being free to be whoever you want to be."
Head below to view the song's inspiring video directed by Sara Gilbert, as well as a trailer for the upcoming Don Hardy-directed documentary. Gilbert said: "When Linda asked me to direct the music video for Beautiful, I was honored but tentative at first. Was she sure she wanted to trust me with such an iconic song—such a meaningful piece of her work? We hung up the phone, and two minutes later I called her back and said, 'I’ve got it.' 'Take your time,' she replied. 'No. I have it.'
"That was the start of a somewhat obsessive five-month passion project. Rather than a traditional music video, I approached Beautiful as a short film about finding confidence and strength in the face of intolerance. My hope is that it encourages even a handful of people to be braver in their truth—and perhaps a few others to reconsider what beauty can mean."
Perry will celebrate the release of 'Let It Die Here' with a live performance and signing at London's Rough Trade East on June 22. Head here for details. Tickets are on sale now.
Perry's 4 Non-Blondes disbanded in 1994, after which she focused more on producing and songwriting than recording her own music. Her most recent solo album is 1999's 'After Hours', though she put out 'Deer Sounds' in 2015, a collaborative project with Gilbert. Following a successful reunion in 2025, a new 4 Non Blondes album is expected to arrive in late 2026.
