Syd has announced her third solo album and first in four years.
The follow-up to 2022's 'Broken Hearts Club' is titled 'Beard' and will arrive on July 17 via Free Lunch/Warner Records. It was co-produced by the Los Angeles singer, songwriter and co-founder of The Internet, and features collaborators Raphael Saadiq, Big Sean, Rodney Jerkins, James Fauntleroy, Van Hunt, Blu June and Jordan Ward. Syd said:
"Beard is a coming of age album for me. It’s a snapshot of what my life looks like right now. The title was inspired by the peach fuzz on my upper lip that society has always taught me to hate. I fell in love with my peach fuzz and it made me rethink everything that was supposed to make me feel insecure. It allowed me to take my confidence into my own hands, and own everything that I am and everything I love about myself, regardless of what anyone else thinks.
"The title also represents the way I see myself in relation to my peers, especially in music. ‘The bearded lady.’ Not so much a spectacle in my case, but an anomaly and an outlier. Hard to compare. I’m owning that too. Taking things that were once insecurities and flipping them on their head has been extremely empowering."
The album will include last year's single GMFU and the newly shared Callin featuring Blu June, an R&B offering that arrives with a video directed by Naleye J.
Alongside the announcement, Syd has scheduled the UK and European leg of her Beard Tour for late summer, which includes a date supporting Tyler, The Creator at his headline show at London's All Points East concert series on August 29. Tickets for her new headline shows go on general sale at 10am local time on Friday (June 5).
Last year, Syd also released the single Die For This, her first new music since 'Broken Hearts Club', though it won't appear on the new album.
