Seasick Steve has announced a new album.
The follow-up to 2024's 'A Trip a Stumble a Fall Down on Your Knees' is titled 'The Last Season of America' and will arrive on September 18 via Steve's new label home at Eastcote Recordings.
Produced by Grammy Award-winner Martin Terefe at Eastcote Studios in London, the album was shaped by a coast-to-coast road trip across America that Steve and his wife Elisabeth took just before the 2024 United States presidential election, during which he saw poverty and division. It was recorded by Steve and his longtime drummer Dan Magnusson, with contributions from guitarist Dave Okumu and Terefe on bass, with its 10 tracks serving as a personal and emotional look at the singer-songwriter's home country. Steve said:
"We drove across the country from Miami to LA. We thought we was gonna have an amazing time but we were mostly sad, so much homelessness and division."
Alongside the announcement, Steve has shared the record's melodic, acoustic guitar-driven title track, which follows the previously unveiled cuts, Somebody and Bad Things, the latter of which heavily criticises Donald Trump. "I guess it ain't too hard to guess, right?” Steve said of the song. "There’s bad things, but we still can change. If you believe in hope, we can rearrange. I still believe in the power of love."
Fresh from a performance at The Garage in London on Wednesday (June 3), he'll play Tolhuistuin in Amsterdam tonight (June 5) before headlining Country On The Common Festival in Tooting on July 4 and appearing at Folk By The Oak Festival in Hatfield on July 19. Tickets are on sale now.
