Bonnie "Prince" Billy has announced a new live album.
The Kentucky artist, real name Will Oldham, is set to release the eight-song 'Ghosts of American Psychonauts' on September 18.
Recorded at The Pico Union Project in Los Angeles over Valentine's Day weekend last year, not long after the release of his latest album 'The Purple Bird', it comprises three reworked tracks from that album, as well as some of the most popular songs from the musician's discography.
All tracks on the album are performed with Oldham's touring band, featuring Thomas Deakin and Jacob Duncan. There are also appearances from several guests, including Emmett Kelly, Ryder McNair, Dv DeVincentis, Patrick Shiroishi, and 'The Purple Bird' producer Dave Ferguson, who sings on Downstream. Oldham said:
"Everyone on the stage (on this record) knows how to tell stories, musically, and relies on this storytelling to create liveable real spaces. In February of 2025, in Los Angeles, we had stories to share with each other and we did it with a thorough and cathartic push-and-pull with each other, and with the audience.
"The sound of the record doesn't make any sense, nor does its duration, by standard standards, and this allows the record to do what we want music to do which is to make its own sense.
"Once you've been on the road for years it's undeniable that the road is also home, because that's where much of our friends and family are. The stage and the audience were full of friends and family, and music is where we meet."
Alongside the announcement, Oldham has shared a new take on 'The Purple Bird' track London May, retitled London May (Live in the City of Ghosts), featuring the former Samhain drummer turned actor London May behind the kit.
Billy has also scheduled UK and Ireland dates for the coming months, including performances at Belfast's Mandela Hall on September 8, Dublin's Dún Laoghaire Folk Festival on September 11 and 12, and London's O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire on November 17, which are set to take place alongside shows across Europe, Ireland and the US through to January. Tickets are on sale now.
Bonnie "Prince" Billy released his latest studio album, 'We Are Together Again', this March via Domino.
