Reef Announce Return Tour Dates & Tickets

Reef are back, or they will be next April. It’ll be seven years since the Glastonbury boys went their separate ways. ‘Place Your Hands’, the energetic feel-good anthem that still gets people putting their hands up in the air on dance-floors, is one of those classically miss-heard tracks. It’s actually about coping with death of a loved one and the line is “place your hands on”. No ‘put’ or ‘up’ involved. Buzz killed. You’re welcome.

I knew someone who used to sing the first line as “put your hands on my hole” without even a ‘w’ for decency’s sake. The lyric, for the record, is ‘hope’ put your hands on my hope. I dread to think what she thought the song was about, especially when she had her hands in the air, singing that other line wrong.

Anyway, other trivia: in 2000, the band, who are all keen surfers, were sued over their name by surf merchandisers Reef Brazil, who thought name confusion would eat into their profits. The band, who already changed their name from ‘Naked’, got to keep their name, um, obviously.

Reef’s second album ‘Glow’ is number 26 on Kerrang!’s 100 albums to hear before you die.
