Foo Fighters Begin Work On New Album

American alternative rockers Foo Fighters have announced that they will start work on recording a new album in September.

Foo Fighters formed in 1995 in Seattle after the dissolution of Nirvana, a vehicle for the songwriting talent of Dave Grohl. Initially being formed as a band for the drummer to work on his new material, Foo Fighters took on a massively popular life of its own.

Having so far released several hugely successful albums worldwide, Foo Fighters decided to call a hiatus on things in 2007. Since then the band did re-unite last year to promote their ‘Best Of’ album but apart from that frontman Dave Grohl has focussed on a number of side projects.

The drumming genius has been hard at work with most talked about band of 2009 Them Crooked Vulutres. The supergroup’s acclaimed debut album was an instant success immediately after its release at the end of last year.

With Them Crooked Vultures also including Josh Homme and John Paul Jones, the trio have confirmed that they are to start work on a second album shortly. However, it will appear that Dave Grohl will have his work cut out, after announcing that Foo Fighters are also due to start work on a new album later this year.

The musician told BBC 6Music, "Foo Fighters have just started writing and we're going to start recording in September so life is full of music."

Dave Grohl recently visited Britain to present an award to Canadian rock band Anvil, the band whose career was transformed into a touching documentary film. Thinking back of his younger days the Foo’s drummer said: "I was touched by that movie so profoundly as a musician. I grew up in suburban Virginia, I'm a high school drop-out, I worked in a furniture warehouse, I played in a punk rock band. There were never any career aspirations.

Grohl continued, "The music I played wasn't commercially viable I just did it because I loved doing it. I'd work all week and at the weekends I'd get to play and if I went on tour I'd quit my job and then I'd get home and beg for my job back. And you know what, I got really lucky."

Foo Fighters are set to perform at London’s Royal Albert Hall later this month as part of the Teenage Cancer Trust gig series.
