Guy Garvey is a British singer, songwriter and guitarist from Lancashire, best known as the lead singer of British indie rock band Elbow, as well as a solo artist.
Elbow formed in the late 1990s around Manchester and have achieved commercial and critical success, being nominated for the Mercury Music Prize in 2001 and winning in 2008. They were commissioned by the BBC to write, ‘First Steps’ as the theme to the channel's coverage of the London Olympics, as well as playing two songs at the closing ceremony. As the sole lyricist, Garvey has been praised widely for his songwriting, and the band have won two Ivor Novello Awards.
Garvey released his debut solo album ‘Courting The Squall’ in October 2015, and played a run of shows in December in support of the release. He was also announced as the curator of Meltdown Festival in 2016.
