Max Richter is a British post-minimalist composer from Bedford, best known for releases such as ‘Memoryhouse’ and ‘Sleep’.
He is a classically trained musician, having studied composition at the Royal Academy of Music in London, and under the instruction of experimental Italian composer Luciano Berio. He formed the contemporary classical ensemble Piano Circus, who were signed to Decca and Argo and released five albums.
He released his debut solo album, ‘Memoryhouse’ in 2002, to great critical acclaim. He’s gone on to release a further eight albums, including his acclaimed release, ‘Sleep’ in 2015, which was performed in full on BBC Radio Three, as part of the stations Science and Music Week and broke several records, including longest live broadcast of a single piece of music in the station's history.
