His impressive filmography boasts roles in a number of productions, including A Fish Called Wanda (1988), for which he received the BAFTA for Best Actor in a Supporting Role.

His acclaimed travel series have seen him travel to the North and South Poles, the Sahara, the Himalayas, Eastern Europe, Brazil, and even North Korea, earning him four BAFTAs (including the coveted BAFTA Academy Fellowship Award), a National Television Awards Special Recognition Award and a knighthood for services to travel, culture and geography.
