The Beat are a British 2-tone ska band from Birmingham, consisting of Ranking Roger, Ranking Junior, Oscar Harrison, Steve Harper, Chiko Hamilton and Andy Pearson.
Originally formed in 1978, under the name The Beat, the band released their debut album, ‘I Just Can't Stop It’ in 1980, followed by ‘Wha'ppen?’ in 1981 and ‘Special Beat Service’ in 1982, before splitting in 1983. The band now have two factions with founding member Dave Wakeling performing in the USA as The English Beat starring Dave Wakeling, alongside founding member Ranking Roger’s The Beat feat Ranking Roger in the UK. They released their latest album, ‘Bounce’, in September via DMF Records. The Beat feat Ranking Roger head out on a joint headline tour throughout 2017 with The Selecter, with more shows added for spring 2018.
