Formed in 1989, the band is led by Neil Hannon, who is joined by a variety of musicians. They released their first album, ‘Fanfare for the Comic Muse’, in 1990, but it was their fifth—1997's ‘A Short Album About Love’—that really broke them into the mainstream, hitting #13 on the UK Official Albums Chart.
