Bellowhead are a euphoric eleven-piece (that’s right, eleven!) folk band. Their progress has seen them rise from a band who just “wanted to have fun at festivals”, to recording, as of 2011, three critically-acclaimed albums ’Burlesque’, ’Matachin’ and 2010’s ’Hedonism’. They have been voted ’Best Live Act’ at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards four times to date.
Bellowhead feature a four-piece brass section and are renowned for their energetic live shows. Members of Bellowhead often switch instruments during their performances with members playing more than 20 instruments between them. After releasing their fourth album ’Broadside’ - which hit #16 in the charts, their highest finish - they announced they would return with a fresh batch of dates for April 2015.
However, the band have announced they will split following a two-part final farewell tour. The British 11-piece folk troupe will call it a day after eleven years, explaining via a post on their website that lead vocalist Jon Boden has decided to step down and the others "don't wish to continue without him".
The band will sign off with an extensive two-part nationwide tour in November 2015 and April 2016, including an added date in Southampton, with their final show taking place at the intimate Oxford Town Hall, where they played their first ever show in April 2004.
