Foo Fighters Recruit Nirvana’s Kirst Novoselic

Monday, 01 November 2010 Written by James Conlon

Dave Grohl has invited his former Nirvana bandmate Krist Kovoselic to perform on Foo Fighter’s next release. The collaboration is set to appear on the Foos’ as-of-yet untitled seventh studio album.

In case Nirvana fans weren’t feeling nostalgic enough, former Nirvana producer Butch Vig has also been at the helm of the joint effort, which was recorded in Grohl’s garage studio. Vig has supposedy produced six other tracks on the album thus far.

The album is scheduled for release next year, at a time which coincidentally also marks the 20th anniversary of Nirvana’s seminal album 'Nevermind'. There are reports that the band are planning a full-length video release to accompany the album, charting the writing and recording process of the record.

In an interview with BBC Radio 1, Grohl described his excitement for the new record: "This whole project has been really cool. I haven't made a record with Butch for 20 years, almost exactly 20 years." He also revealed that the album is halfway completed, and will be the Foo Fighters “heaviest yet.” He said the release “will be totally old school analog,” and contain no acoustic guitars.

Foo Fighters recently announced that they will play two massive headline shows in Milton Keynes next July.

Foo Fighters will play the following dates:

2nd – Milton Keynes Bowl, UK (support form Death Cab For Cutie and Biffy Clyro)
3rd – Milton Keynes Bowl, UK (support from Jimmy Eat World and Biffy Clyro
