The Union are pleased to announce of a new single, 'This Time Next Year', taken from their critically acclaimed debut album 'The Union'. All net proceeds from the single will go to ChildLine.
The Union is a band formed by guitarist Luke Morley and ex Winterville vocalist/guitarist Peter Shoulder (one of only three British artists (the other two being Eric Clapton and Peter Green) to win a W.C. Handy Blues Foundation award, presented in Memphis in 2006 for co-writing the American Blues Song of the year 2006).
The band started work on their debut album in late 2009 – eventually releasing in August 2010 to widespread critical acclaim. Forgoing standard label release plans the band released the album themselves – through critical acclaim (including radio 2 play) and word of mouth the band scored a UK midweek chart position of 27. The band ran an innovative online campaign to support the release.
The Union won the award for for Best Newcomer at the 2010 Classic Rock Awards which took place on Wednesday 10th November 2010 at London’s Roundhouse. The Union also opened the show with a two song live set (one of only three performances, the others being Alter Bridge and Cheap Trick).
'This Time Next Year' is the perfect showcase to The Union sound. A gospel tinged ballad, the track is a near perfect seasonal single overlaid with a typically assured vocal from Pete Shoulder. The single will feature three exclusive, previously unreleased, b sides, including 'Time', the first demo the band have release from their yet to be recorded second album. In addition to the standard CD and digital formats, a digital karaoke version of the single will also be available, with fans being invited to send in their own recordings of a vocal for a chance to win an exclusive guitar signed by Luke, Pete and a host of other rock royalty.
The new single 'This Time Next Year' will be released on Deceber 13th with all net proceeds for the single being donated to ChildLine, a charity the band have a close association with through their patronage of ChildLine Rocks.
The Union played a sold out club run in both April and then separately in September/October 2010. The band performed at both Sonisphere and High Voltage festivals in 2010. The Union are pleased to announce guest slots on select shows as part of Thin Lizzy’s January 2011 UK Tour. Dates are as follows.
