Jessie J Plans Duet With Leona Lewis

BBC Sound Of 2011 Poll winner Jessie J is planning to record a duet with Leona Lewis, it has been revealed.

The 22-year-old songwriter is said to be keen to record a Christmas duet with Lewis, but admitted in a recent interview that her vocal range is intimidating. She said: "Leona and I want to do a duet together. Her voice intimidates me because she is so good. Her range is unreal but I feel we would complement each other."

Jessie J (real name Jessica Cornish) has had an impressive couple of months: not only did she triumph on the BBC Sound of 2011 Poll, beating the likes of James Blake, Mona and The Vaccines, but the singer is also set to pick up the ‘Critic’s Choice Award’ at next month’s Brit Awards ceremony.

However, Jessie J clearly isn’t letting the hype go to her head. In a recent interview with BBC Radio One, the singer vented her frustration at the current state of the music industry and the way in which modern artists portray themselves. She said: "I feel like a lot of the industry and media portray this image of what beautiful is, or how you should dress, or how you should look, and I don't think it's healthy. I'm not a model, I'm an artist. In one of my videos I'm doing this shot of me with no make-up on where I've just woken up, and I don't think a lot of people would be comfortable enough to do that. But that's the way I look. This is who I am. Let's enjoy it.”

She continued: "I want young people to know that they can belong - whatever your culture, your religion, your sexuality - that you can live life how you want to live it and feel comfortable how you are. I want to create a place where, when they type in online 'how to kill myself', that comes up and it's a place of hope instead of a place of darkness. I suppose that's what I want to do. I don't want to just sing."
