Damon Albarn Writes Film Score For ‘The Boy In The Oak’

Monday, 10 January 2011 Written by James Conlon

Blur frontman Damon Albarn has written the musical score for a new short film, ‘The Boy In The Oak’. The film has been adapted from a book of the same name, written by his sister Jessica Albarn.

Narrated by Jude Law, the film will be screened in Spring this year in selected theatres. According to the film’s production company “it tells the story of a lonely young boy and the journey he takes upon discovering an old oak tree in the garden of his family home”. It has not been revealed whether or not Albarn will be releasing the soundtrack to the film separately or not.

Meanwhile, Gorillaz launched a competition after releasing their download album ‘The Fall’ this Christmas. The band asked fans to draw a new character for their cartoon universe in a competition sponsored by Microsoft. Fans entered in their thousands, but the winning design was a character called ‘The Evangelist’, a man with a fish bowl on his head, a Mohican, a water-gun and rain boots. The winning cartoon was re-drawn by Gorillaz artist Jamie Hewlett after five rounds of voting. You can view the winning design at www.gorillaz.com/evangelist.
