Guillemots to Release Third Album ‘Walk The River’ in April

Saturday, 12 February 2011 Written by Rob Sleigh

Birmingham-based experimental indie-rockers Guillemots have announced that they are to release their third album ‘Walk The River’ on 18th April. The album will be preceded by a single ‘The Basket’ on 13th March. ‘Walk The River’ follows the band’s previous albums, their Mercury-nominated 2006 debut ‘Through The Windowpane’ and 2008’s Top 10 release ‘Red’, which featured the hit single ‘Get Over It’.

Guillemots were founded in 2004 by frontman Fyfe Dangerfield. More recently, Dangerfield released his debut solo album ‘Fly Yellow Moon’ in 2010. A deluxe edition of the album included the single ‘She’s Always a Woman’, a cover of the track by Billy Joel. Upon its release last year, Dangerfield’s version reached Number Seven in the UK Singles Chart after appearing in a TV advert for John Lewis. The song’s inclusion in the commercial prompted a return of Billy Joel’s original into the chart.

‘Walk The River’ will see Dangerfield return to work with Guillemots. Speaking about the album, he said: “The songs had to sound as if they were being heard through the night sky, sleepwalking their way onto tape. But they also needed to survive on a piano or acoustic guitar and still grip you, still have a rawness and directness that would move you without relying on the arrangements. So it was all about trying to attain this wonky balance of sharpness and blurriness. We wanted to make a record that would completely surround you as you listened to it, fill you with warmth.”
