Download Organiser Says Metallica 'Have Become Boring'

Download festival organizer Andy Copping has sensationally accused Metallica of becoming boring.
Metallica have been through many different phases and styles in their 29-year long history, and have come under fire from fans many a time too – including most recently their marmite album St. Anger which was criticised for its lack of guitar solos as well as other things – but to have the UK’s biggest metal festival call you boring would be a blow for any band.
Copping was talking in reply to criticism of booking Def Leppard for the Sunday headline spot of this summer’s festival – a slot fans were hoping a band like Metallica would fill.
“I booked Def Leppard because they deserve it, because they are big enough to do it."
“Metallica have toured extensively and have been here for seven of the last eight summers. For me that is definitely overdoing it.”
“Metallica are a great band but if they went away for three or four years then came back then they'd be even bigger. When they keep coming back they become boring.”
So it looks like there won’t be a place at Download Festival this year – and it’s unclear how long it will be till they play the three day event again, if they ever do.
But thrash fans need not fret – you can catch Metallica as part of the ‘Big Four’ (Metallica, Anthrax, Megadeth, and Slayer) line-up at this year's Sonisphere Festival.
