Adele Tops UK Singles And Album Charts Once Again

Adele has finished at Number One in the UK singles and album charts for the third consecutive week. The London-born singer is enjoying immense success with ‘Someone Like You’ and her sophomore album release, ‘21’.

In terms of the singles chart, ‘Someone Like You’ managed to hold off competition from Jessie J’s ‘Price Tag’ and Rihanna’s ‘S&M’, which finished Number Two and Three respectively. Adele’s single sold over 116,000 copies over the last seven days, even managing to keep a resurgent Lady Gaga at bay. The controversial American singer found a sales peak with her latest single, ‘Born This Way’, which rose from Number Eight to Number Four in the chart.

The highest new entry of the week came through American rockers Foo Fighters, who earned the Number 22 spot with the first single from their upcoming seventh studio album, ‘Rope’.

In terms of the UK albums chart, Adele once again reigned supreme, earning her sixth week at Number One with ‘21’. The singer passed the 1 million sales mark for the album this week, helped by the fact that she shifted 180,000 copies of the release in the last seven days. In addition to the Number One spot, Adele also claimed Number Four with her debut album, ‘19’.

Jessie J was held at bay again, earning the Number Two position with her debut album ‘Who You Are’. Despite not managing to topple Adele in the charts, the Essex-born singer still made a strong impression with first-week sales of 105,000. Beady Eye found the Number Three position with their debut album ‘Different Gear, Still Speeding’.

New faces Claire Maguire and Alexis Jordan both managed to earn places in the top ten with their debut releases. Maguire's ‘Light After Dark’ went straight in at seven and Jordan earned the Number Nine spot with her self-titled LP.
