Claire Nicolson - You And I (Single Review)

Claire Nicolson has come together with Yellowhammer to release a second single, 'You and I.' This track has been released alongside 'Quiet Company' which is a track from her forthcoming album.

Claire has worked with her brother, Hugo Nicolson, on 'You and I'. The single has a catchy rhythm and a good beat. However, this fails to blend well with the lyrics and focus of the song. It seems that there has been an attempt to fuse together two different styles and unfortunately it has not worked. Claire is much better suited to country music but her borther’s focus is more on pop, and for this reason it feels like the single does not actually fit into any one style. The backing music pulls your focus away from Claire’s vocals; its distracting and leaves you either remembering either the music or the vocals. This is disappointing as the vocals themseleves are very good. Claire’s voice has a country feel to it and would perhaps be better suited to that specific genre.

ImageThe second track to this single, which is 'Quiet Company,' shows a lot more potential. The acoustic style and guitar compliment Claire’s voice very well. This song fits much better into the country genre. Once again, there is a catchy rhythm combined with a good beat. The intention is a lot clearer with 'Quiet Company.' There is a clear style and every element of the song comes together to produce the track.

Overall, the single 'You and I' was a little disappointing but does show that Claire deserves more recognition as she can sing well. The track, 'Quiet Company' outshines the single and demonstrates Nicolson’s talent. Her forthcoming album, '52 Card Pick Up', looks promising and if there are more tracks like 'Quiet Company' I’m sure it will be hit with country music fans.
