Slash Sets Record Straight About Velvet Revolver

Legendary guitarist Slash has set the record straight about his band Velvet Revolver – claiming that he didn’t form the band to help Guns N’ Roses’ tale live on.

Slash, who has a notoriously bad relationship with GnR frontman Axl Rose, also went on to say that he doesn’t understand the hysteria that still surrounds the band since their decline from stardom and success.

Speaking in an interview with Heineken Music, he revealed “I don’t really like to spend time talking about them (Guns N’ Roses), but the interesting thing is the strong legacy about each band. The level of hysteria around the band - or should I say the name Guns N’ Roses - has continued. I don't totally understand that.”

He is quick to correct people’s ideas that he and other former GnR members Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum formed Velvet Revolver as a Guns N’ Roses mark two.

“Velvet Revolver happened because Duff and I got together with Matt Sorum and Scott Weiland, and it was so good and intense we decided to carry it on. So trying to follow in Guns N’ Roses’ footsteps wasn't an issue for us at all, because it's been so long since Duff and myself had been in the band.”

Hard feelings would be an understatement for the relationship between Slash and Axl – in 2009 Axl described Slash as a ‘cancer’ and claimed that he should have never been in GnR (not like he was the most talented member or anything).

"In a nutshell, personally I consider him a cancer and better removed, avoided - and the less anyone heard of him or his supporters, the better," said Rose.

"Slash either should not have been in Guns to begin with or should have left after (1988 mini-album) 'Lies."
