Barbra Streisand Records New Album With Two Collaborators

American singer and actress Barbra Streisand has done pretty much everything one artist can do – but will now fulfil her dream to release an album with all of the lyrics written by Alan and Marilyn Bergman, her two close collaborators and friends.

‘What Matters Most – Barbra Streisand Sings the Lyrics of Alan and Marilyn Bergman’ is set for a 22nd of August release date and will the singer’s first release of fresh music since 2009’s album ‘Love is the Only Answer’ – which, after soaring to #1 in the album charts, made Streisand the only artist to achieve a #1 album in five separate decades. Could this new LP make it six decades of #1 albums for Barbra?

The new album, which Streisand personally produced, is comprised of ten Bergman songs which Streisand has never previously recorded. Included in the set are the Academy Award winning songs “The Windmill of your Mind” (from the 1968 film The Thomas Crown Affair); “So Many Stars” (originally a hit song for Sergio Mendes & Brazil ‘66); “Nice ‘n’ Easy” (popularized by Frank Sinatra); and “That Face” (first recorded by Fred Astaire) . The CD will also be packaged in a jewel box with a 24-page colour booklet, meaning it is the ultimate fan combination.

As well as the standard CD, a deluxe edition will be available, including ten previously released performances of Barbra singing the lyrics of Alan and Marilyn Bergman including “The Way We Were”, “You Don’t Bring Me Flowers”, “Papa Can You Hear Me?” and “Pieces of Dreams”.

Barbra has a lot of the respect for the song-writers, and said: Alan and Marilyn Bergman have a remarkable gift for expressing affairs of the heart.” The respect is mutual.

“When we write a song, we hear Barbra,” said lyricists Alan and Marilyn Bergman. “She makes the connection from the heart to the mind, and it emerges through her voice.”

If you’re a Barbra Streisand fan, this new album is a must-have.
