Professor Green Reacts To London Riot Comments From ‘Moron’ Journalist

Wednesday, 10 August 2011 Written by James Conlon

Professor Green has reacted negatively to comments made by a British journalist who called for rap music to be banned in the wake of recent UK riots. Paul Routledge of the Daily Mirror criticised the “culture of hatred” in modern rap music, however Professor Green was quick to condemn his comments, calling Routledge a “moron”.

Speaking in the tabloid, Routledge claimed that rap music “glorifies violence and loathing of authority (especially the police but including parents), exalts trashy materialism and raves about drugs”.

He continued: “The important things in life are the latest smart phone, fashionable trainers and jeans and idiot computer games. No wonder stores selling them were priority looting targets”. He went on to call for a ban of "poisonous rap".

Green was keen to respond to Routledge’s comments, using many pejorative terms while reacting on his Twitter account. The rapper wrote: “Paul Routledge is an absolute moron. An absolute fucking moron. Yea ban rap music, silence our voices even more. Ignorant prick. Surely this isn't about shifting the blame, but accepting responsibility? Neither my music or that of my peers is to blame for society and its faults. we didn't create the tiers.”

Professor Green is not the only rapper to have spoken out following on from four nights of rioting across the country. Rapper Plan B also wrote a recent editorial in The Sun, claiming that young people need better education in order to prevent such riots occurring again in the future.
