You Me At Six - Loverboy (Single Review)

When You Me At Six announced that 'Loverboy' (the first single taken off their brand new album 'Sinners Never Sleep') was going to be played on the radio this week, my Twitter feed exploded with joy and anticipation, but was it really all worth it?

ImageWith promises of a heavier You Me At Six on the horizon, hardcore “Sixers” and hardcore kids in general were left with their mouths watering at the idea of whatever a heavier You Me At Six entailed, but 'Loverboy' doesn't show much of a heavier aspect than any of the previous albums.

Admittedly, the intro to the song gives it a quirky edge, along with a brilliant bassline that captivates the listener into thinking that maybe this could be the brand new You Me At Six we've been hearing about. As with most You Me At Six songs, the lyrics are well thought out and Josh Francheschi's vocals are better than ever. However, with exception to the first thirty seconds of the song, it is obvious that You Me At Six are not much heavier, they are just at their best.

With tracks on 'Sinners Never Sleep' featuring the knockout growls of Oli Sykes (Bring Me The Horizon) and Winston McCall (Parkway Drive), I'm sure that the new album will have a heavier aspect, however 'Loverboy' offers nothing to “woo” other genre fans as of yet, it is merely an improved version of what You Me At Six already are. 'Loverboy' is a product of a maturer You Me At Six that critics have been craving for.

'Sinners Never Sleep' drops on October 3rd.
