Mercury Prize to Feature Live Performances from All Nominees for the First Time

For the first time in its 19-year history, the Mercury Prize will feature live performances from all 12 shortlisted nominees at Tuesday night’s awards ceremony. The 2011 Barclaycard Mercury Prize will be held on Tuesday 6th September and hosted by Jools Holland. Lauren Laverne will host the television coverage on BBC2 and BBC HD from 10pm.

Adele, James Blake and previous winner PJ Harvey are among the favourites to win this year’s prize for album of the year. However, as previous years have proved, outsiders like Ghostpoet, Gwilym Simcock and King Creosote & Jon Hopkins are still in with a chance of taking home the prestigious award. The Mercury Prize – now in its 20th year - has become well-known for rewarding new and emerging talent since in debut in 1992, when Primal Scream first walked away with the award for ‘Screamadelica’.

Anyone hoping to follow the ceremony on Tuesday can listen to coverage on BBC Radio 6 Music from 8pm, which will be hosted by Steve Lamacq. You can also watch Huey Morgan greet the red carpet arrivals on Barclaycard’s Facebook page. Other behind-the-scenes footage will be posted regularly on the Mercury Prize Facebook page.

The full list of nominees for the 2011 Barclaycard Mercury Prize is as follows:

Adele ‘21’
Anna Calvi ‘Anna Calvi’
Elbow ‘Build a Rocket Boys!’
Everything Everything ‘Man Alive’
Ghostpoet ‘Peanut Butter Blues & Melancholy Jam’
Gwilym Simcock ‘Good Days at Schloss Elmau’
James Blake ‘James Blake’
Katy B ‘On a Mission’
King Creosote & Jon Hopkins ‘Diamond Mine’
Metronomy ‘The English Riviera’
