Wednesday, 07 May 2025 Written by Jon Stickler

Mercury Prize organisers have announced that this year the ceremony will take place outside of London for the first time.

The award show, which recognises the best British and Irish music and artistic achievement across a range of music genres, will relocate to Newcastle's Utilita Arena.

The shortlist of 12 'Albums of the Year' will be revealed on September 10, with the  ceremony following on October 16, featuring live performances from many of the nominated artists, with the evening culminating with the announcement of the winner. As with previous years, BBC Music will provide coverage of the event. Tickets are on sale.

Last year, the prize was won by English Teacher for their album 'This Could Be Texas'. Previous winners include Ezra Collective, Little Simz, Arlo Parks, Michael Kiwanuka, Dave, and Wolf Alice.
