Gorillaz to Release Singles Collection in 10 Year Anniversary Celebration

Damon Albarn’s animated music supergroup Gorillaz have hit their tenth year of being a (virtual) band – and are going to release a ‘singles collection’ CD, which will showcase their greatest singles since their 2001 birth.

The group, famed for tracks like ‘Feel Good Inc’ and ‘Clint Eastwood’, put out their eponymous debut back in 2001, and instantly garnered fans around the world with their funky and hip-hop inspired beats, relaxed, soulful attitude and their blend of Albarn’s lethargic vocals with countless guest MCs, singers and vocalists. Now, you’ll be able to all their biggest and most-loved singles in one place.

The 15-track collection of the band’s singles, videos and remixes, The Singles Collection: 2001-2011, celebrates 10 years of audio visual innovation and three studio albums from the most successful virtual band in the world ever. The Singles Collection will be released as a standard CD, CD and DVD and 140 gram vinyl. A special edition 7” box set will also be made available.

Jonathan Ross is a huge fan, and said this about the cartooned band: “Gorillaz restored my faith in music – and animation. They are second only to The Archies in my list of all-time favourite bands. They make you want to dance, they make you want to smile, they make you want to drive a monster truck around the desert.”

Always open to an interesting collaboration, Gorillaz have worked with numerous artists including Dangermouse, Ibrahim Ferrer, Del the Funkee Homosapien, De La Soul, Kano, Bobby Womack, Ike Turner, Lou Reed, Mark E Smith, Bootie Brown, Tina Weymouth, Bashy, Little Dragon, Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, Snoop Dogg, Dan The Automator, Mos Def, D12, Phi Life Cypher, MF Doom, Rosie Wilson, Shaun Ryder and Neneh Cherry.
