A cock-up by HMV yesterday left X-Factor chiefs livid after the website accidentally listed an X-Factor 2011 Winner’s Single CD - appearing on their website with finalist Amelia Lily’s name on it - prompting critics to call the talent show a fix.
The mistake, which record store HMV described as a ‘regrettable technical issue’, led to thousands of online users and X-Factor fans speculating that the show was a fix and that HMV had insider information on the show. Despite the shop releasing an apologetic statement, X-Factor officials were still very unhappy at the incident.
“Hmv.com was looking to accept customer pre-orders for versions of the X Factor winner’s single recorded by each of the three finalists,” HMV spokesperson Gennaro Castaldo told worried fans.
“However, due to a technical issue only Amelia Lily’s details were uploaded. These have been temporarily removed so that all three finalists’ details can go up at the same time.
“This has been the result of an unforeseen but regrettable technical issue, for which we apologise and ask that nothing further be construed.”
X-Factor PR lady Caren Davis said: “This is absolutely nothing to do with The X Factor, HMV have admitted this was due to a technical error on their site.”
The show concludes this Sunday, with Amelia Lily pitted against Marcus Collins and girl group Little Mix to take the 2011 winner's crown.
