'New Record Is Inspired By Tupac', Says Speech Debelle

London-based hip-hop star Corynne Elliot, a.k.a Speech Debelle, has revealed that some of her new album was inspired by deceased rap legend Tupac ahead of the release of her second record.

The star’s latest effort, which follows her debut album release ‘Speech Therapy’, contains a lot more strong language and adult themes than her previous record. But Debelle has defend her new LP ‘Freedom of Speech’ and it’s harsh lyrics (which include the line: “I'm not a popstar/I'm a motherfucking thug”), claiming that she is ‘trying to be better’ and that they were inspired by Tupac, who was fatally shot in 1996.

“It's inspired by Tupac. The lifestyle we live is somewhat thuggish in the way we eat, the way we walk and the way we talk. It might be taken as a bit loud and boisterous, but I'm not going to sit here and wait - I'm going to kick down the door. Even saying that is a little bit aggressive. I'm trying to be better, but being a popstar is striving for perfection which is narcissistic and insane. It's not healthy.”

‘Freedom of Speech’ will hit shelves on February 13th, and you can check out her latest single ‘Blazin’ Up a Fire’ below.
