While Blur fans have had their fair share of good news recently, with a forthcoming reunion set in place – they’ve confessed that they’ll ’definitely’ be recording a new album, they’ve just debuted a brand new track and will be performing five tracks at the BRIT Awards ceremony tomorrow night. But now, bassist Alex James has delivered the news fans will have wished they’d never hear – admitting that this reunion could be their ‘last bow’ ever.
The band, who’ve been around since 1989, will be picking up the Outstanding Contribution to Music Award tomorrow night and will be performing together as a four-piece for the first time since 2009’s T in the Park. While no-one really knows what lies ahead for the band this year as of yet, with a new album reportedly on the way, we could be seeing a lot of the band in 2012. But is 2012 one of the last years we’ll ever see the band again?
“There is always a feeling that this may be Blur's last bow, which I suppose makes it all the more exciting,” James told The Sun. “We've been asked to perform five songs. I met up with the band last week and we discussed what we will play. I'm more excited about playing a few of the old hits again than winning. Winning prizes is nothing compared to the feeling of playing music.
“Pulling the band back together is like reassembling the A-Team for one last job. I'm a cheesemaker now. As much as we loved Blur, if you do anything day in, day out for 15 years, it becomes a job. We all needed to go our separate ways and do other things with our lives. Now when we play together, it's for the joy of it, like in our early days.”
