New Model Army Bassist Departs - Kicking Off Mass Public Search For New Memeber

80s post-punk rockers New Model Army have decided to part ways with their bassist of 22 years just a day after the band were announced to play at this year’s Sonisphere Festival – meaning that frontman Justin Sullivan and co. are now holding mass public auditions to find themselves a new member.

Yes, that means one lucky member of the general public has a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play bass for the band for not only their set at Sonisphere, but as they work on their twelfth studio album too.

A statement from the band regarding the auditions reads: “As the band has become synonymous with having a phenomenal rhythm section for 32 years, the very first requirement will be considerable technical ability. Some professional experience will also be required. Beyond those 2 pre-requisites, all applications will be considered - successful first round applicants will be contacted and invited to submit further information and attend an audition.

“All serious applications should be made to info@newmodelarmy.org with the subject 'Bass Player application'. It should include a detailed résumé of all musical experience to date, a photograph, a link to online video clip of a live performance and a written statement to support the application.”

Former bassist Nelson has left the band because of personal reasons and has told fans: “Before joining New Model Army I never thought bass playing was very exciting: I changed my mind after the first rehearsal and I knew NMA was the band for me. It's been a pleasure playing and working with the various band line-ups and I'm glad to have had the opportunity to be part of something really special. I know I'm gonna miss it so much.”

If you can’t wait to check the band – who’ll hopefully have found their new bassist by the time – out live, make sure you don’t miss them at this year’s Sonisphere Festival from July 6th-8th. If you need tickets, check the dates and details below.
